I use a presentation style called wireframing to show the first mock-ups of your site. These are really useful to keep the focus on the content and navigation of the site rather than the design details. If there is a particular graphic design element then I will include that so we can see how the rest of the site should coordinate with the graphics. Most clients get a few of these to look at online and then we use them to decide on a final layout and then can also add graphics to this easily before any coding is done. This format saves all the coding for last because it can be labor intensive to redesign color schemes and graphics after code has been created.
